About

Travel discovery with a clearer point of view.

The most memorable trips are rarely the obvious ones. They often come from somewhere unexpected — a place you had not considered, but that turns out to be exactly right.

Alta is built to find that place. You describe how you want to travel — the mood, the pace, the timing — and Alta returns a considered shortlist chosen for that trip, each with a clear explanation of why it made the list.

What we aim to do

Alta helps you move from “where should we go?” to destinations that fit.

It weighs the feeling you are after, your timing, distance, weather, budget, and travel style, so what comes back is considered rather than generic. Each destination arrives with a clear explanation of why it made the list — visible reasoning, not a hidden score or star rating.

Why Alta

Alta means higher ground: a clearer vantage point for choosing where to go next.

The goal is not to plan every hour of a trip. It is to help you recognise the kind of place that feels right — and then get out of the way.

How Alta works

Alta assesses every destination against your specific trip — the mood you described, where you're starting from, when you want to travel, how long you have, and the budget feel you are after. Not ranked by popularity. Not shaped by advertising. Chosen for you.

How your inputs shape the recommendations

The process begins with how you want the trip to feel.

Your words — quiet, coastal, cultural, adventurous, food-led, city-based, or somewhere in between — help Alta understand the mood and pace you are looking for. Your origin, dates, duration, and budget provide the practical boundaries.

Alta then compares destinations across three things: how well they match the experience you described, how practical they are for your trip, and whether the timing and value make sense compared with the alternatives.

The result is a small, reasoned shortlist — fewer options, better explained.

Travel safety

Travel safety signals are based on UK FCDO guidance. Destinations with severe advisories are excluded from recommendations. Advisory notes appear where FCDO country-level guidance includes material background cautions. Travel advice is not personalised to your nationality or residence.
