Alta is a destination discovery tool. We help people explore destinations that may fit the kind of trip they have in mind.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Alta is operated by Samsara North.

2. What information we collect

At this stage, Alta does not require an account, login, payment, or booking.

We may collect or process the following limited information:

Information you choose to enter

This may include the trip feeling or description you type, your departure city, timing, duration, traveller type, and budget feel.

Saved destination information

If you use the Save feature, your saved destinations are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. This information stays on your device unless you clear it.

Technical information

Like most websites, our hosting provider may process basic technical information such as browser type, device type, IP address, pages visited, and request logs. This helps the site load, operate securely, and diagnose technical issues.

Messages you send us

If you contact us by email or through a form in the future, we may process your name, email address, and message so we can respond.

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not use paid placement to decide which destinations appear.

We do not use your browsing history, past bookings, or third-party behavioural profiles to decide where you should go.

Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on one or more lawful bases depending on the activity:

Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the website.
Consent — where you choose to provide information for a specific purpose, such as signing up for updates in the future.
Contract or pre-contract steps — if we later provide services that you request.

5. Cookies, local storage, and analytics

Alta does not use advertising cookies.

The Save feature uses localStorage in your browser to remember saved destination IDs. This is stored on your own device and can be cleared through your browser settings.

We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated analytics about how the product is used — for example, which result modes are shown and which actions are taken. We do not collect your name, email, exact GPS coordinates, or the free-text descriptions you type. Analytics events record only anonymous session data, destination IDs, and interaction types.

PostHog may store a cookie or use browser storage to associate events within a single session. No advertising or cross-site tracking is involved. If marketing tools are added in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated.

6. Sharing information

We may share limited information with service providers who help us run the website, such as hosting, security, or email providers.

We do not sell personal information to advertisers.

7. How long we keep information

Saved destination information stored in localStorage remains on your device until you clear it.

If you contact us, we keep your message only for as long as needed to respond and manage the relationship.

Technical logs may be retained by hosting providers for security, diagnostics, and operational purposes.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to:

access the personal information we hold about you;
ask us to correct it;
ask us to delete it;
object to or restrict certain uses;
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
complain to a data protection authority.
